According to the Dan Tri and Zing News, on the afternoon of June 9, the Coordination Office of the Southeast Asian Sports Federation and the Olympic Committees of the countries met to discuss and discuss the organization of the 31st SEA Games.
In the context that the Covid-19 epidemic is affecting throughout Southeast Asia, organizing a sports event with the participation of more than 20,000 people is a very headache problem.
Therefore, the host Vietnam has proposed a plan to postpone the organization of the 31st SEA Games this year and reschedule it to July 2022.
However, there have appeared some differing opinions regarding the time of the organization. Some countries said they have only received funding in 2021 and are already prepared, so planning for next year is very difficult.
Meanwhile, some countries still hope that Vietnam can host the 31st SEA Games this year, and should apply the way of the 2021 Olympics held in July in Japan.
Quite a few countries in the region such as the Philippines, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Timor Leste and Thailand are opposed to this idea. The only country in favor was Myanmar, while Laos voted blank.
The meeting has not yet reached a final conclusion and on June 24, the countries will continue to have another meeting. On that basis, all discussed together to come to an agreement on the plan to hold the 31st SEA Games at an appropriate time.
As expected, the 30th Sea Games will have about 25,000 attendees who are coaches, athletes, officials, security officers… According to our country’s regulations, entry to Vietnam now will be have to undergo 3 weeks of isolation.
This is a difficult problem in terms of costs, facilities, .. for local organizations. For individual athletes, it is also difficult to achieve a drop in performance after isolation.
In addition, delaying the SEA Games to next year will affect the organization and interests of the host country of the next Congress – Cambodia.
