Up to this point, the HongGuang Mini EV is stagnating on the position of the world’s best-selling electric car, surpassing all big names like Tesla or Toyota. Indeed, appearing with a seemingly small and simple shape, the influence of the Chinese model is making the whole world admire.
The fact that HongGuang Mini EV is not too prominent with its appearance. Objective and very accurate comments from users, experts all point out that its technology is far behind products from long-standing brands. Operation is not powerful, the range of movement is not large. But contrary to all those weaknesses, sales of cars have always surpassed Tesla – the largest electric car company in the world, for many months.
Calculating data in January 2021, HongGuang Mini EV sold 25,778 vehicles in China alone, the number with Tesla is only 13,843. At this rate, it is likely that 2021 will be the year of the Chinese car brand, it is difficult for any other name to surpass in sales.
The biggest strength makes HongGuang Mini EV a small but still scary competitor thanks to its unbelievable low price. Since its launch in July 2020, the car’s selling price has been from just over 29,000 yuan ($4500), which is cheaper than a high-end Honda SH in the Vietnamese market.
Combined with that, the automaker offers an extremely smart marketing strategy, with the main policy being aimed at the ‘Gen Z’ generation, a huge but easy-going customer market. Small in size, cheap, the manufacturer has turned the car into just a fashion product in the eyes of users, more than just a means of transportation. Thanks to that, it really attracts the young user group.
If you just look at the referral parameters, obviously not many people are interested. But if the actual experience with the HongGuang Mini EV, no one has to complain. The price is too cheap, but this ‘tiny’ still ensures all the basic needs of urban users.
The car is designed to look small on the outside but is quite spacious inside. Owning 2.9m long, 1,493m wide and 1.6m high, the car can fully accommodate 2 26-inch suitcases or a stroller when the rear seats are folded down. This size is compared by users with the popular Kia Morning model.
The electric motor produces a maximum power of 13kW and a maximum torque of 85 Nm. The car’s speed can reach 100km/h and the range is 170km on a single charge.
Chris Jones, senior automotive analyst at Canalys commented: “HongGuang Mini EV becomes a convenient, low-cost means of transportation. A safe and clean space compared to public transport or other forms of technology car-hailing” – outstanding advantages during the raging pandemic.
